The Stars at Night...

...are big and bright!

Ok, so you'll only get that reference if 1) you're from Texas, or 2) you're a fan of PeeWee Herman. But anyway, I was playing around with the camera last night during the nearly full moon. While my lunar pictures didn't turn out that well, I thought this one of Ursa Major perched above Montezuma Well was pretty cool. Now that I know how to eliminate most of the camera shake for long-exposure pictures I'm going to have to try to get some good Milky Way shots during the next new moon in a couple weeks.

nice one. i found that i need different exposiures for the full moon vs. the rest of the shot. so i thought maybe taking 2 pics - one with the moon well exposed and the other for the stars, then i could gimp them together. but i haven't mastered that trick yet.

for the camera shake - don't you have a tripod?

Looks cool! Of course, the first thing that popped into my head was Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. Classic.

Lovely shot. What was your final exposure time? Did you use a remote? I'd bet your lunar shots are fantastic with that dark of a night sky.
